MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Lauderdale County is getting ready for the primary elections next month.
Dozens of poll workers appeared at the old Mt. Barton auditorium to learn everything needed to make things run smoothly come August 6, 2019.
Over the next several days workers will be trained on everything from setting up the ballots to troubleshooting ballot machines.
Election commissioner for District 2, Consuela Rue, says this is a great way for poll workers to familiarize themselves with the process, even if they have past experience.
“We are going over duties of a bailiff, opening and closing procedures and what the R and R does. That’s the return and receiving manager. They come from the courthouse and get the transfer cases to take them out to the precincts that morning,” Rue says.
The next poll worker training session is set for Tuesday afternoon.
