Prayer vigil for Kemper County accident victims

DEKALB, Miss. (WTOK) - In just one month, twelve people were killed in fatal wrecks in Kemper County. Tonight, a vigil was held in Dekalb to remember those who recently lost their lives while on the road.

Kemper county sheriff James Moore says the large turnout shows just how much the county cares.

"When the citizens in this county hurt, all citizens hurt and they try to make it better for everybody," Sheriff Moore said.

After hearing about the back to back tragedies in the area, Kemper County resident Donald Martin says he considered it important to attend Wednesday's vigil.

“Tragedy sometimes is the only thing that can break down walls," Martin said. "Hopefully we can stay together now.”

First responders were also recognized at the vigil.
