The bridge over Burwell Branch on Old Highway 80 West near lost gap has been closed for several months.

The bridge was originally closed by the Federal Highway Administration for repairs, but the damage was too extensive and it needed to be replaced. Residents of the area say this has caused inconvenience for traveling. District 5 supervisor Kyle Rutledge says funding has been allotted for the bridge and progress is being made.

"it's a big inconvenience not just for me, but the people as well," says Resident Danielle Davis.

"it's inconvenient for the customers of the businesses on the side of the road. It's definitely a longer way around," says Resident Samuel Blaeney

"our county engineer submitted plans to the state already. They are reviewing those plans and it will take about a month maybe a little longer. After that, then we can go to bids, to replace the bridge," says District 5 supervisor Kyle Rutledge.

Rutledge says construction should start within two or three months.
