Quitman School District is holding a Summer Feeding Program in June for children up to 18 years old. Parents or guardians may bring their kids for a free meal

“This is our first year,” says Faye Henry, the manager of Quitman Upper Elementary School. “For the first week we didn’t do that good but the second week it picked up and I feel like it’s picking up this week, so it’s going good and it’s something to feed the kids and they also enjoy coming.”

The meal also serves a purpose to encourage kids to eat healthier.

“It helps their body because they don’t have to eat a lot of sweets and stuff and it’s just good for your body and they can be more focused and more nutritious to help them out in the years to come,” Henry says. “The milk is also good for the bones.”

Kids we talked to enjoyed their lunches.

“It was good!”

“It’s good because of the mash potatoes and the chicken nuggets.”

The program runs until June 28th and is available Monday through Thursday from 10:50 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.

“It’s something for the community, for Clarke County, you know something to just help the kids, keep their mothers and save on their grocery bill to you know, something to help the kids eat,” Henry says.

The lunch is being served at the Quitman Upper Elementary School cafeteria.
