LEFLORE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - The problem that caused a KC-130T aircraft to crash in northern Mississippi in July of last year has been determined.
In an incident report done by Lockheed Martin and recently released by the Marine Forces Reserve states that cracking occurred in one of the plane’s propellers causing it to break off. The report says that led to the plane breaking apart mid-flight on the afternoon of July 10, 2017.
The accident scene in Leflore County was immediately secured.
The aircraft, that had a callsign of Yankee 72, was transporting military personnel and cargo from North Carolina to El Centro, California. All 16 Marines were killed in the incident.
