MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - One year ago this month residents in one part of Meridian were voicing their concerns over Sweet Gum Bottom Road.
Meridian city council members voted to close the road to make way for a larger industrial park in hopes of appealing to big industry.
The promise of a new road that would re-route Sweet Gum Bottom hit several snags over the last year and now Ward 2 City Councilman Tyrone Johnson hopes the new solution is just around the corner from becoming a reality.
“Roughly around March or April we will be getting in here to get the road paved. We will also hopefully be putting in street lights as well,” Johnson says.
The project is expected to cost the city around $500,000.
