Rodeo draws crowd despite dreary weather

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Despite the dreary weather, the community gathered Thursday night to support college students from all around the South and Midwest.

East Mississippi Community College is hosting the seventh annual intercollegiate rodeo at the Lauderdale County Ag Center. This is the third year it has been held in Meridian.

It marks the spring season opener for NIRA's Ozark region and features 250 cowboys and cowgirls from ten different colleges and universities.

"It’s important for me because this is how I get to go to college,” says Laramie Wells, a team roper. “They pay for my college to be on the team. I mean it just means a lot to me. You know, this is my whole life. "

If you missed your chance Thursday night to show support, there is another opportunity Friday starting at 7 p.m. at the Lauderdale County Ag Center. Tickets for adults are $10, student tickets are $5 and children under five get in for free.
