MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - We remain under the influence of a high pressure system this afternoon giving us clear skies going into this evening. Overnight lows will drop into the mid to lower 30s across the viewing area. Northern counties in the twin states will likely see frost develop overnight. A freeze warning has been put out for the following counties: Winston, Noxubee, and Pickens. A frost Advisory has been set for the following counties: Greene, Sumter, Hale, and Marengo. Be sure to protect your plants tonight!
Overnight cloud cover will increase and a few patchy showers could be seen by Sunday morning. This chance of rain will remain low throughout the day but increase as we go into the nighttime hours. Highs will stay in the mid-50s for Sunday afternoon with lows in the lower to mid-40s. Heavy rain will make an appearance on Monday afternoon with the passing of a stout cold front. Rainfall totals are currently approximated at 1-2 inches. After the font moves through we will noticeable changes on Tuesday with highs only reaching the mid-40s. A few patchy morning showers and clouds will give way to more sun in the afternoon. Lows will also be dropping below freezing across the area Tuesday night. Expect a cold and breezy start to your Wednesday as well. Highs will stay in those mid to upper 40s on Wednesday with nice and sunny skies. Another cold night is also to be expected with temperatures right below freezing.
Thursday will be another sunny and chilly one with highs in the lower 50s. Lows will drop below freezing once again with lows near 30. Clear conditions remain into Friday with highs in the mid to upper 50s and lows in the lower 30s. As we go into the weekend things will remain dry and cool. On Saturday expect highs in upper 50s with sunny skies.
