Saturday's storm causes damage in Meridian area

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - Heavy rains and powerful winds pounded parts of East Mississippi Saturday.

By mid-morning, local emergency crews had already responded to dozens of storm related calls across the area including Lauderdale County.

First responders were seen near 25th Avenue in Meridian where a tree fell on a home in the area causing extensive damage. Powerful winds also brought down power lines nearby.

Responders were also dispatched to another report of a tree down, this one on 26th street, fortunately no injuries were reported.

Trees were toppled and power lines were snapped across the area, but local power companies and cooperatives responded quickly to make repairs.
