MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - General elections are always busy. Election officials say there has been a constant flow of people at just about all 40 precincts in Lauderdale County.

Election Commissioner Awana Simmons says the process has been smooth with no problems with ballot counters. She says she hopes it stays that way.

"We have had a good turnout of people that haven't voted in a while. But this is a race that is state and local, which they should turn out for. We always have a good turnout for this," said Simmons.

Simmons estimates the first ballot box to arrive back at the courthouse around 7:40 p.m. The polls close at 7:00.
