Some Meridian restaurants will be open this Thanksgiving

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The Checker Board and the Magnolia Restaurant at the Queen City Truck Stop are two of several restaurants that will be open this Thanksgiving.

“There’s a need for a place for people to come and eat, especially if the food is really good like ours is,” says Ronald Frazier, owner of the Checker Board. “Thanksgiving is probably our third biggest day of the year besides Easter and Mother’s Day. We’ll fill our building up a couple of times.”

“It gives these people that do not have anywhere to go to come eat at a good place,” says Ted Burton, the owner of the Queen City Truck Stop.
The Checker Board will be serving breakfast from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and then a Thanksgiving Lunch from 10:30 until 4 p.m. The Queen City Truck Stop will be open 24/7.

“We’re going to be serving the traditional dinner Thanksgiving Day which will be turkey, ham, and a variety of vegetables,” Burton says.

Both owners say that turnout is high on Thanksgiving Day at their restaurants.

“We have our regular customers that come every Sunday that also come on Thanksgiving Day and we’ll have a lot of travelers that come in and of course you’ve got a lot of people in visiting their families and things of that nature, and they’ll come,” Frazier says. “We’ll have groups of 15, 20, or 25 that will show up and we’ll have groups of one that show up, so we try to take care of everybody who comes in.”

“Turnout is usually really good on Thanksgiving, because a lot places as we’ve said before are closed,” Burton says. “We have a lot of regular customers that do come here every year.”
