MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK)- A total of 27 crew members of Southern Pine Electric Association are heading to South Carolina. This is to help in restoration efforts for those who are impacted by Hurricane Florence.
"Going into a situation like this you never know what the guys are going to get into, but once they get there Aiken Electric they will be assessing the damage throughout the day. We will know more today or in the morning what they will be doing and how they will be assisting that co-op," said Chad Lewis Vice President of operations.
Southern Pine Electric is a part of a state wide organization called Electric Cooperatives of Mississippi.
"We will work with the other state wides from North Carolina and South Carolina and they will work together to figure out what exactly they need and then they will assign crews to certain co-ops in those areas to help," said Brock Williamson who is the communications coordinator for Southern Pine Electric.
Southern Pine Electric Co-op was assigned to Aiken, South Carolina. Once Crew members arrive they will be instructed by Aiken cooperatives and will start restoring power.
Crew members are planning on staying for 2 weeks but will stay for as long as they are needed.
