Summer heat builds as showers grow fewer

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Our summer showers will grow fewer for Wednesday and Thursday. That means our summer heat is going to be cranked up to broil.

A few showers are possible through this evening. By 9-10 PM, any lingering showers should come to an end. Not everyone will get rain. The farther north you are, the bigger your odds are of actually getting some rain. Expect a warm evening with temperatures dropping from 90s to 80s. Our low temperature by morning will be around 75 degrees.

Wednesday will be mostly sunny, mostly dry, and hot. A stray afternoon shower or two can pop up in the heat of the afternoon, but most of us will stay dry. The high temperature will be near 95 degrees. Heat index values will be around 100-105 degrees.

Thursday will be mostly sunny, dry, and hot again. The high temperature will be near 97 degrees with a heat index around 105 degrees. A chance for a few showers is creeping back into the picture for our Friday forecast. The showers can knock temperatures back into the upper 70s and lower 80s. Away from the showers, expect mid-90s with heat index values around 100-105. Saturday will be mostly cloudy with scattered to widespread showers and a few thunderstorms. Highs will be near 94 degrees after morning low of 75. Sunday and Monday will be mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the lower 90s with morning lows in the mid-70s. Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms. The high will be near 90 with a morning low near 71. Rain each day will be able to cool us into the upper 70s and lower 80s, while warmer 90s are likely in the dry areas.
