Supervisors plan to assess election needs

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - Lauderdale County election results weren't available until hours after the polls closed Tuesday, leaving voters and candidates on edge.

The election commission says USB thumb drives containing the results should only take seconds to process. But for some reason, it took a lot longer than that.

District 5 Supervisor Kyle Rutledge says the board plans to meet with the election commission soon to make sure it has everything needed for smooth election days.

"In years past, they've been much quicker," said Rutledge. "It's a conversation we need to have with the election commissioners and the circuit clerk, to see if there's anything they need to make things quicker. I know this is just the second or third election using the new machines."

Rutledge says supervisors plan to meet with the commission after the current certification process is complete.
