BUTLER, Ala. (WTOK) - A suspect is in custody after a high-speed chase from Butler to York that ended when suspects wrecked Wednesday night.
Officials say two people robbed the Verizon store in Butler about 8 p.m., in the process assaulting an employee, and then escaped in a car. They were pursued at speeds up to 120 miles per hour by law enforcement through two counties.
Butler Police Chief Derek Thorne says Denzell Charleston has been charged with first degree robbery, assault and attempting to elude police.
A second suspect managed to get away and is being sought.
Thorne says most of the merchandise taken from the store was recovered.
Butler Police Department, Choctaw County Sheriff's Department, Sumter County Sheriff's Department and York Police Department were involved in the investigation and the chase.
