Suspect arrested for shooting Ala. police officer

MILTON, Fla. (WEAR) - The Milton Police Department (MPD) has identified the name of the man accused of carjacking a woman and leading police on a chase before being shot in the chest.

MPD said 32-year-old Bradley Shane Hobbs has been charged with armed carjacking, aggravated fleeing and eluding, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

On Thursday, MPD officers responded to a stolen vehicle in progress call.

Officers were told Hobbs carjacked a woman at knifepoint near the intersection of Munson Highway and Econfina Street.

MPD said Hobbs ignored officers’ attempt to perform a traffic stop and fled northbound on Stewart Street.

According to a report, Hobbs crashed into a retention pond near the intersection of Highway 87 and Langley Street.

While armed with a knife, MPD says Hobbs advanced towards an Cpl. Dwayne Smith.

MPD said Cpl. Smith was forced to fire his weapon in order to stop Hobbs.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
