Jeff Tate hosted a rally outside the Lauderdale County Courthouse Thursday afternoon to announce to his supporters that he will run for State Senate District 33.
Current state senator Videt Carmichael is not seeking re-election.
Tate says his main goal is to create more job opportunities for people in the twin states. He also says his two daughters played a big factor in him running.
"I have a three-year-old, Caroline, and two-year-old, Ella, and I want to make sure that, as they grow up, they have opportunity like others have had the opportunity here in Meridian, not have to move off," said Tate. "I want them to be able to have good paying jobs here."
Tate says he is humble that so many people came out to support him as he runs for state senate.
