MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK)- A wish came true in Meridian Wednesday for a young boy who has silicosis, which is a lung disease.
If you could make a wish what would it be? Well for 13-year-old Jacarius, his wish marks a turning point in the fight against his illness.
“He has learn to take care of himself and adapt to his conditions he has to put himself in. That’s why he sometimes stays to himself, but it’s to make sure he’s taking care of himself,” said Grandfather Bennie Goudy.
Mississippi Power volunteers held several fundraisers to send Jacarius and his family to Disney World through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
“Last year we helped to make a wish and it made a big impact. Just to be able to give to a family, we decided that this was something we had to do again this year. It cost $6,500 to grant a wish. That $6,500 is made up of the East Mississippi Chapter of community connection employees. Giving of their own money,” said Meter Analyst Mona Jackson.
Family and friends gathered to support Jacarius and celebrate his continued recovery.
“I am very excited for him. Just seeing the smile on his face when she let him know we will be able to go. He was very excited and I thank Mississippi Power for coming together with Make A Wish to get this done for him, “said Mother Keeosha Randel.
“It is really nice for Mississippi Power to do this for my grandson. He is a special kid because of his disease he has, but he’s just a normal kid, “said Goudy.
Jacarius says he is thankful for Mississippi Power and Make A Wish Foundation for making his dream come true.
His family leaves Thursday for the week-long trip.
