CARTHAGE, Miss. (WTOK) -- A Tennessee teen has been killed in an accidental shooting in Leake County.
15-year-old Jacob Smith was killed at a relative's home Saturday, June 30 around 4 p.m. at a home on Martin Luther King Drive in Carthage.
According to authorities, two teens were in the home when a 12-gauge shotgun went off unexpectedly discharging buck shot. Smith was hit in the side when the weapon fired.
Leake County Coroner Earl Adams stated that Smith died from the shotgun blast.
Smith attended Kirby Middle School in Memphis, Tenn., where he was an honor student and member of the Kirby Middle School football team.
