The Black Rodeo made its way back to Meridian

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Nearly a thousand people came out to see the 2nd Annual Black Rodeo at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center

The event features cowboys performing incredible feats for a portion of $6000 in prizes.

The categories covered at this event are bull riding, steer wrestling, bareback riding, calf roping, team roping and barrel racing. There are even special performance categories for cowgirls, like steer undercoating, and junior barrel racing for the kids.

“Meridian is one of those cities that love rodeo. When it comes to rodeo, they love seeing us, and love having us in the city. Most importantly, this is about preserving the culture of the African American cowboy. It’s about making sure everyone knows how the black cowboy obtained the west,” says communication marketing director Todd Morris

There was a musical performance from Southern Soul Blues artist Big Yayo.
