Trees more likely to fall due to saturated ground
With the threat of more rain and heavy winds people should be aware of falling trees.
After several inches of rain over the last several days the chances of trees falling over are greater. Lauderdale County Emergency Management Deputy Director Greg Chatham says trees can become uprooted with less force due to saturated ground. He says it’s harder for a pine tree to become uprooted, but hardwoods like oak trees are more susceptible.
“As you go down the road you can see trees leaning from past storms. When you add all these things together like recent rain and winds coming through, you don’t have to have a tornado to have a disaster,” Chatham says.
Chatham says to be aware of any trees that might be leaning or have more branches on one side and to check with an expert when deciding if you need trees removed.
