Trike-a-Thon held Thursday for a charity

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Students at the Children’s Center at Central United Methodist Church got to have fun at a Trike-A-Thon Thursday morning and it’s all for a good cause.

“This is actually part of a fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital,” says Kim Beck, a mother of a student at the Central UMC Children’s Center. “It just helps us to raise awareness in the community that we’re collecting donations for the children of St. Jude.”

Choosing St. Jude as its charity has a special meaning to the church.

“We actually have had three students impacted within our church community that benefited from St. Jude, so that’s why we started to choose St. Jude years ago,” Beck explains.

The children are always excited for Trike-A-Thon.

“Children love the Trike-a-Thon because they learn about tricycles and bicycles all week and so they get to actually come out here and ride it and get to experience feeling like a big kid,” Beck says.

Here’s how you can help.

“[You] can actually bring cash or check to the church, or find one of the students that go to the church,” Beck says.

To further help raise awareness for the fundraiser, a parade will be held in downtown Meridian on Friday.

“It’s super fun, all the kids dress up, we have little floats that the parents and the students have gotten to decorate,” Beck says. “And it’s all based on St. Jude: hunting for a cure, or mining for a cure, whatever it may be, and the children just have such a good time with it.”

If you would like to donate, Central United Methodist Church is located at 1004 23rd Avenue in downtown Meridian. The deadline to donate to the fundraiser is Monday. The church raised around $12,000 last year.
