Two arrested in Clarke County drug bust
After several months of investigation, two suspects are now in custody facing charges after being arrested Wednesday morning during a drug bust.
Clarke County Sheriff Todd Kemp says a search warrant was executed on Highway 18 West, right outside of Quitman.
“We had warrants on two different individuals with this house and was hoping to find more drugs and weapons, in which we did when the residence was secured," said Sheriff Kemp.
Four people were initially detained but only two are being charged.
Carlos Morgan faces three counts of the selling methamphetamine and possession of marijuana. Robert Heidelberg faces conspiracy to distribute and possession of marijuana.
Kemp says distributing drugs is a crime that he deals with far too often.
“It’s a very serious crime," said Kemp. "The information we obtained prior to running the search warrant was a very high-risk situation and the individuals were known to be seen outside with guns.”
Several agencies helped with the arrests, including the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.
"Illegal drugs is a fight to our communities," said Sheriff Kemp. "If we can stop one child from getting his hands to being exposed to drugs, then we’re winning the fight."
Bond for Morgan and Heidelberg was not immediately set.
