Unmasked armed robbery suspect caught on camera
It has been a crime-filled weekend in Clarke County.
"Whether you call it due to a full moon or people just trying to be bad, I don't know what the answer is to that, but we have been busy," Sheriff Todd Kemp says.
Authorities were called to an armed robbery Monday morning after midnight at the Chevron in downtown Quitman. The suspect was caught on camera as he walked into the store with a towel wrapped around his hand. He told the clerk he had a gun and demanded she give him the money in the register. Then, he drove away with the cash he collected.
"The call was made. Officers responded within 2 minutes," Sheriff Kemp says. "There's a good possibility they met him, not knowing the description of the vehicle at the time. It was a good response time."
The sheriff says the suspect could be a traveling criminal that stopped off Highway 45, but he's not making any attempt to cover his features. They hope someone can help to identify the suspect.
"We don't want that in our town. We don't want that in our county," Sheriff Kemp says. "We're going to do everything we can possible to get this guy caught and get him prosecuted."
