MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - A special walk aimed at bringing awareness about a debilitating disease will be held in Meridian Saturday.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world's largest event to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer’s care and support.
Benefit walks are held in communities across the U.S. The local walk is at 8:30 Saturday morning at Bonita Lakes Park.
People of all ages are invited to participate in this important event. The cost to walk is $25 and t-shirts will be given away.
Organizers say the goal this year is to raise $30,000.
"It’s so important to raise money for Alzheimer's and dementia because it's an ongoing continuing disease. It's just growing as we're living longer. There's so many people in our community and across America that have been affected by Alzheimer's disease. If your family has not been affected, then I’m sure you know someone that has been," said event organizer Shelley Whitehead.
Participants may register for the walk at Bonita Lakes Saturday morning or register online at alzms.org.
