Witnesses speak on shots fired at McDonald's

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Meridian police continue to search for the person who fired shots at a busy fast food restaurant Tuesday night.

Police were called to the College Park McDonald's a little before 7 p.m. for the shooting. Sergeant Dareall Thompson says there was an argument that led to shots being fired in the parking lot. No one was hit, and the shooter had left the area.

Jalen Burwell says he was in the drive-thru when he heard the commotion.

"I ordered. Within two minutes, I heard gunshots and people running out of the store," he says. "With weapons being involved, sometimes you never know the outcome."

Another witness, who asked to remain anonymous, says she was very close to the violence.

"I was right there. I saw the fire coming out of the gun with each shot. There were children next to him and in that parking lot," she says. "He looked directly at me."

A third witness describes hearing five to six shots from across the street at CVS.

"I never thought it would come to that public of a place, but it did," he says. " It makes me worry about loved ones, no matter where or how safe an environment they are in."

Police got a tip the suspect could be in the Western Gardens area, and close to a dozen officers rushed to the apartments. No one was arrested, and police left soon after.

Newscenter 11 has reached out to McDonald's for comment, but no one was available to take our call.

Sgt. Thompson says police are reviewing surveillance video to learn more but the suspect still has not been caught. If you have any information, call CrimeStoppers at 855-485-TIPS.
