A Lauderdale County women is dead after the car she was riding in lost control and hit a tree early Friday morning.

Authorities say it happened just before 1:00 a.m. on Hand Road in the Martin community.

Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun says 22-year-old Courtney Robertson was killed when the car she was in slid off the road and hit a tree. He says there were a total of five people in the car.

The four others also received injuries with at least two of them being transported to Jackson with life threatening injuries.

“Speed certain was a factor and it was raining at the time. The roadway was wet. All were transported to local hospitals. Two of those four were then transported, one by helicopter and another by ground, onto Jackson to hospitals,” Calhoun says.

Calhoun says the investigation is underway to determine if there will be any charges filed in the incident.
