JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - According to the National Assessment of Education Progress, fourth and 8th graders nationally made vast improvements between 2017 and 2019. Fourth graders made the largest score gains in reading and math.
The report says Mississippi is the only state in the nation to show significant increases in three of the four core NAEP subjects in 2019.
Mississippi state superintendent of education, Dr. Carey Wright, says assessment results for all students have increased every year over the last four years.
"Every measure that we're looking at is only going up," said Wright. "Our assessment results have gone up every year for four years. Our graduation rates are at an all time high."
The report indicates that Mississippi has had a 10-year trend of steadily rising scores while the nation's scores are basically unchanged.
