YORK, Ala. (WTOK) - The city of York says one of its two water well pumps cannot be repaired and must be replaced.

According to a news release from Mayor Gena Robbins, the new pump will arrive Thursday and is expected to be installed and operational by late Friday.

The mayor acknowledged that some customers are experiencing low water pressure and some have no water service. Several of those called Newscenter 11 over the past couple of days.

Robbins said York is being supplied by two backup water sources and the three water tanks are slowly filling to normal capacity. She says customers who don't have water should have service restored around 12 noon Thursday.

Customers who lost service should boil water for consumption after it's restored, as a precaution.

Robbins asked customers to refrain from extended water use by anyone until the new pump is functioning. Examples of this are shorter showers, reducing washing machine use and avoiding watering lawns or washing vehicles.

The mayor said in a statement that the reality is that equipment does break down, but city staff is working to get all water service restored and asked the community for patience.
