ATLANTA, Ga. (WTOK) - In what all but assures the Crimson Tide the top spot in the College Football Playoff, top-ranked Alabama defeated No. 4 Georgia, 35-28 Saturday in Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The Tide, who trailed 21-14 heading into halftime, erased a 14-point second half deficit in the victory – the most in an SEC Championship game.
Starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (1 TD, 2 INT) left the game in the fourth quarter after suffering a right ankle injury. Jalen Hurst engineered two scoring drives – including the game-tying and go-ahead scores in the 4th quarter.
Alabama has now won five-straight games against the Bulldogs, including last season’s national championship game. The win is the Tide’s fifth SEC Championship in the last seven seasons.
Both teams await their postseason fate when the College Football Playoff Committee announces the Playoffs and New Years Bowl pairings Sunday at 11:30am.
