11-on-11: Brandon Buckley, Enterprise
Brandon Buckley is a 6-foot, 235 pound defensive tackle entering his senior year. He's been playing football since the 7th grade.
"I grew up not the happiest kind of kid,” Buckley said. “I just wanted to hit somebody all the time and football was the way to go."
The Bulldogs compiled a 1-11 record last season, the most losses in school history. Buckley reflected on last season's struggles and what he hopes to change this year.
"We didn't want to come together. We were always fighting,” Buckley said “We didn't want to be a team and we didn't have leaders out there. This year, I plan on stepping up and leading young guys into next season.”
Buckley not only wants to be a leader for the guys on his team, but younger kids in the community who hope to play high school football when they get older.
"At the beginning of the summer we went over to the Shepard's Staff to look at the kids,” Buckley said. “I could see their eyes glow when they saw us. I just hope to be a good picture for them when they get older."
Before leaving Enterprise, we got to know Buckley beyond the playing field, asking him questions like what his dream vacation is.
"Dream vacation? Honestly I don't have one,” Buckley said. “If I did, it would be in a log cabin in the middle of the woods somewhere with nothing to worry about."
We also asked him the best advice he's received and what super power he dreams of having.
“Don't stop what you love doing and if you don't love doing it, don't do it at all,” Buckley said.
“And for a superpower…probably super strength, so I can move anything and do anything I wanted to do.”
Enterprise opens up the season at home vs. Richton on Aug. 23.
