BUTLER, Ala. Junior Sammy Lewis is a 5'7, 180 pound running back for the Patrician Academy Saints. He's been playing football since he was 7 years old.
"Growing up in Alabama, everyone plays football in high school," Lewis said. "I grew up watching it and that's why I wanted to play it."
Now being an upperclassman, Lewis is ready to step up as a leader for the team. After going 5-6 last season and losing in the first round of the 2018 AISA AA playoffs, he knows what adjustments the team must make this season to be successful.
"We just need to buy in this year, Lewis said. "This year we need to buy in more to the plan and that's to get to Troy. That's our goal and that's what we need to buy in to."
Along with overall team goals, Lewis shared his individual goals for the season.
"Be a better tackler...I want to accomplish 100 tackles on the year," Lewis said. "That's probably my biggest goal."
On the defensive side of the ball is senior Logan Lowery, a linebacker standing at 6'0, weighing 200 pounds. He also plays tight end but shared what he enjoys most about the linebacker position.
"I like playing linebacker better because you get to hit people," Lowery said. "That's my favorite."
As a senior, this football season will be Lowery's last time sporting a Patrician Academy uniform. He knows now is the time to leave it all out on the field
"A personal goal for me is to try the best I can every play and go at it 100%."
Patrician Academy opens the season Aug. 23 against Marengo Academy.
