TOXEY, Ala. (WTOK) - South Choctaw Academy senior Marshall Manning is a three sport athlete and has posted a 4.2 GPA – good for first in his class. Between the athletics, extracurricular clubs and academics, Manning has made a point to prioritize his schoolwork.
“Academics is first always – that’s what mom tells me,” Manning said. “And athletics – I love athletics. I’m just in love with them. Every single one of them. Everything I play I just try to be the best that I can be. If you don’t work hard for something, I just feel like you don’t really deserve it.”
South Choctaw Academy Athletic Director and football coach, Charlie Taylor, has witnessed firsthand Manning’s work ethic on and off the field.
“He prioritizes what he needs to prioritize,” he said. “He does things in the correct order they need to be done in and he’s just, like I said, so balanced the way he attacks every situation.”
Manning’s performances this year earned him spots on the All Star team for both football and basketball with baseball yet to be announced.
“It don’t matter if it’s classroom, football field, basketball court, baseball diamond, he’s all in,” Taylor said. “He does what he’s supposed to do. He does things the right way.”
Manning also holds many leadership roles at school – including FCA President, Beta Club President and Student Government Treasurer.
Manning is driven by his faith to excel in all of his activities.
“I just feel that God is the most important drive for me, that anything that I do I need to do it for him and the best of my ability for him,” Manning said.
Manning will be attending South Alabama University where he plans to study engineering.
