DEMOPOLIS, Ala. -- The 2017 season is still fresh on the minds of Brian Seymore and his team. The Demopolis Tigers were one play away from clinching a spot on the 5A state championship, before falling short by a point to St. Paul's to end the year.
"We came a two-point conversion away in the 4th quarter with 47 seconds left to earn a trip to the state championship" Seymore said. "That really leaves a sour taste in your mouth, because you want to earn that trip to the state championship, and that's the goal this year: to play at Jordan-Hare Stadium."
Demopolis has been one of the best teams in 5A Region 3 the last few seasons, winning four consecutive district championships, all while not losing a district game since 2013.
"You have to take care of your region play to be successful" Seymore said. "We play in a tough region, so you have to get through region play to get into the playoffs. Hopefully, you're a little bit lucky and everyone stays healthy, just get into the playoffs and take it one game at the time to advance."
After a 12-3 season last year, the Alabama Sports Writers Association gave Demopolis a top 5 preseason ranking in the preseason 5A poll, setting more high expectations upon the Tigers this fall.
"We lost a few skill players, but I'm happy with what we got defensively" Seymore said. "We're very excited about the 2018 season."
Demopolis opens the 2018 season on the road at Tuscaloosa County on August 24th.
