DECATUR, Miss. -- In a surprise pre-game ceremony on Thursday before facing Morton, Newton County recognized head coach Justin Chaney for winning his 400th career slow-pitch softball game earlier this month. The Cougars beat Forest 13-4 to get Chaney to that milestone.

Newton County has been one of the most successful softball programs across Mississippi in recent years, winning five slow-pitch softball state championships in a row between 2013-2017.

The ceremony included current and former Newton County players, as well as Chaney's son, Jordan Chaney, and daughter, Hannah Chaney.

The Cougars would go on to beat Morton on Thursday night, 10-0.
