MERIDIAN, Miss. -- The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles dropped a close one at home Monday night. The Lady Eagles fell into an early 8-0 deficit and couldn’t get back into the game falling 60-47.
The Lady Eagles got off to a slow start by remaining scoreless for the first 6 minutes of game action. Jordan Bell ended the scoreless streak with a 3 to make it 8-3. Jada Arrington followed with a 3 of her own to make it 8-6 but unfortunately that was as close as the Lady Eagles would get it.
The Lady Bears outscored the Lady Eagles 16-8 in the 2nd quarter to build a 29-16 lead heading into the half.
The 3rd quarter saw the Lady Eagles continue to struggle against the Lady Bears defense. The Lady Eagles were unable to get many shots to fall and the Lady Bears continued to stretch their lead. At the end of the 3rd the Lady Eagles trailed 39-25.
The Lady Eagles made a run to start the 4th quarter and were able to cut the deficit to 8. That was as close as the Lady Eagles would get it as the Lady Bears hit quite a few free throws to ice the game away.
With the loss the Lady Eagles fall to 9-9 on the season. They will be back in action Thursday, February 7 against Hinds Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 at Hinds.
The Meridian Community College Eagles lost their fourth straight game Monday night. The Eagles jumped out to the early lead but couldn’t hold on. The Eagles fell by the score of 72-69.
The Eagles got off to a fast start early jumping out to a 5-0 lead to start. An Alvarez Powell 3 stretched the Eagle lead to 20-15 with 6:45 left in the 1st half. The Eagles lead grew to 8 with 3:45 left in the half. Holding the 25-17 lead the Eagles would be outscored 13-1 over the rest of the half and would go into the half trailing 30-26.
The Eagles came out on fire to start the 2nd half. Keontae Trotter hit back to back 3’s to put the Eagles back into the lead. The game would continue to be back and forth as neither team could build a consistent lead. The Eagles would lead by as much as 8 while The Bears held a lead as big as 6. With the game coming down to the final seconds the Eagles trailed 70-69. The Eagles were able to get a shot off but the shot would not fall. Southwest hit a pair of free throws to put the game away.
The Eagles leading scorer was Trotter with 16 points. Powell and Alex Oguinn both added 15 on the night.
With the loss the Eagles fall to 7-10 on the season. The Eagles will be back in action Thursday, February 7 against Hinds Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 at Hinds.
