STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTOK) - Paving the way for No. 14 Mississippi State’s fifth straight game of over 200 yards rushing and a 3-0 start to the Joe Moorhead era, senior center Elgton Jenkins was selected as the Southeastern Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
This is the first SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week selection in Jenkins’ career. He is the first Bulldog to win the honor since his fellow teammate in the trenches senior Deion Calhoun earned the laurel in October of 2017.
Jenkins did not allow a single quarterback pressure during MSU’s 56-10 victory over Louisiana, allowing the Bulldog offense to rack up 607 yards of total offense. The Clarksdale, Mississippi, native anchored an offensive front that cleared a path for 331 yards rushing against the Ragin’ Cajuns as MSU averaged 8.5 yards per play.
According to Pro Football Focus, Jenkins has only allowed one quarterback hurry this entire season on 84 total pass blocks. Jenkins and the Bulldog offensive line have cleared the way for 935 total rushing yards through just three games this season as MSU leads the SEC and ranks fifth nationally with a 311.7 rushing yards per game average.
Jenkins, who owns 24 career starts, is considered one of the top center prospects in the nation for the 2019 NFL Draft.
