STARKVILLE, Miss. -- After another successful season anchoring the Bulldogs defensive line, Mississippi State defensive end Jeffrey Simmons will forgo his senior season and declare for the 2019 NFL Draft. Simmons will play in 2019 Outback Bowl against Iowa next month.
"For the past three years at Mississippi State, I have poured my heart into everything I did on the field, in the classroom and in the community" Simmons said in a letter released by the university. "This place taught me to never give up, and it instilled a desire and a work ethic to reach my ultimate goal."
The former Noxubee County Tiger has been a presence in opposing backfields for the last three season, tallying 29.0 career tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks. He was named 1st team All-SEC the last two seasons, and won the 2018 Conerly Trophy, given to the best college football player in the state of Mississippi.
"There's a saying about the Mississippi State family" Simmons said."Wherever you go, we go with you. I know you will be with me every step of the way, wherever this journey takes me."
Mississippi State will face Iowa in the 2019 Outback Bowl on January 1st, 2019.
