Continuing on our preseason football tour, we stopped off Highway 80 today at Lake.

The Hornets are buzzing to build off their success in 2018 and get back to the 2A playoffs.

It won't be easy in a loaded District 4. Lake will play defending state champs Scott Central, and playoff teams Philadelphia and Union.

The Hornets soared over expectations in head coach Tate Hanna's second year with a 7-5 mark, including a playoff win, a 27-0 shutout of East Union.

The Hornets have experience back. They bring seven starters on offense and eight on defense, and are led by 12 seniors.

"Year three going into it, we've been with those kids and they know what it takes to win, they know how it's tough in the weight room, how tough it is in the offseason," Hanna said.

"Our district is so good, we have to be prepared to play every Friday night," added Hanna.

The Hornets are led by a trio of seniors, including standout wide reciever/safety Z.K. Ledbetter, offensive/defensive lineman Timothy Norris, and linebacker Shelton Porter.

Lake opens the 2019 season Aug. 23 at home vs. Forest.
