Lake wins first ever slowpitch softball championship

MADISON, Miss. After losing 5-2 in Game 1 against Houston and taking the second game 9-2, the Lady Hornets would defeat the Lady Hilltoppers 13-6 in 6 innings to win the MHSAA Class I State Championship.

The Lady Hornets swept Southeast Lauderdale 19-3 and 21-7 in the semifinals to advance to Saturday's state championship in Madison.

The trip to Madison was the first time the Lady Hilltoppers had ever been to a state championship while the victory for Lake was the first slowpitch state title in school history.

The Lady Hornets end their season on a high note, finishing with a 31-3 record and the right to call themselves state champions.
