MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Local Woman Reaches Milestone at State Games On June 1 at the State Games. 55 year old Debbie May of Meridian crossed the finish line to completed one hundred career 5K’s.

May started running the 3.1 mile races in September 2012, and now seven years later has reached the century mark.

“It seems like yesterday when I first started doing them,” May said. “It worked out where the State Games was No. 100, so that was pretty cool.”

May credits several things for her longevity, including the proper racing shoes, adequate training, a healthy diet, and most importantly the support of friends and family. Her biggest supporter, husband Gene, also doubles as May’s “gear man.”

“She’s a racer,” Gene said. “She gets geared up for it, and enjoys it, and I’ve never seen unsatisfied with a run or anything like that.”

May plans on continuing her journey of staying active by taking a few bike rides this summer, before returning to action in the 5K this September.
