MHSAA Soccer Playoffs: Several area teams advancing to quarterfinals

MERIDIAN, Miss. Following tonight's first round of MHSAA Soccer Playoffs, several area teams have advanced to compete in the quarterfinals on Feb. 1.

MHSAA Class 4A Playoffs: West Lauderdale & Newton County

Both West Lauderdale boys and girls' teams won their first round matchups to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Lady Knights, who are defending 4A State Champions, shutout Raymond 11-0 in round one. They will now hit the road to face Mooreville, who beat New Albany 7-0, in the quarterfinals on Feb. 1.

The Knights, who lost in the 4A State Championship last season, defeated Kosciusko 5-1 in round one. They now host Ripley, who beat Caledonia 3-2, in the quarterfinals on Feb. 1.

Both Newton County boys and girls' teams also won their first round matchups to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Lady Cougars, who fell in the 4A Quarterfinals last season, shutout Kosciusko 2-0 in round one. They now travel to Caledonia to face the Lady Confederates, who beat Corinth 2-0, in the quarterfinals on Feb. 1.

The Cougars, who did not make the playoffs last season, shutout Raymond 7-0 in round one. They now hit the road to face New Albany, who beat Pontotoc 2-1, in the quarterfinals on Feb. 1.

MHSAA Class 1A-3A Playoffs: Clarkdale

Both Clarkdale boys and girls' teams picked up shutout wins over Crystal Springs to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Lady Bulldogs, who fell in the 1A-3A Quarterfinals last season, shutout Crystal Springs 8-0 in round one. They now travel to Sacred Heart to face the Lady Crusaders, who beat Franklin County 4-0, in the quarterfinals on Feb. 1.

The Bulldogs, who lost in round one of the 1A-3A Quarterfinals last season, shutout Crystal Springs 7-0 in round one. They now hit the road to face St. Patrick, who won 3-2 over Franklin County, in the quarterfinals on Feb. 1.
