MERIDIAN, Miss. The Meridian 13U team is packing its bags and preparing to fly to Westfield, Massachusetts for the Babe Ruth World Series.

The team won the Southwest Regional Tournament on July 21, beating Eagle Pass Texas 11-1 to qualify for the World Series. They will be competing against teams from across the U.S. and a team from Calgary, Canada. Opening ceremonies for the World Series will take place Aug. 8 with games beginning Aug. 13.

For many players, like Dmarion Terrell, this will be their first time visiting the state famous for lobstah rolls and The Boston Tea Party.

"I have never been to Massachusetts before," Terrell said. "I've never rode a plane before."

Aside from competing in the World Series, the team will also catch a game at Fenway as the Red Sox play host to the Angels.

"I think we're going up to Boston to watch the Red Sox play," Andrew McCary said. "Mike Trout's coming in to play for the Angels so that will be fun to watch him."

In order to raise money for travel costs and other expenses, the team is having two fundraisers this week. The first one will be tomorrow at Newks from 5-9 p.m. The second one will be on Saturday at Raising Canes from 11-4 p.m.

The team will play Game 1 against Janesville, Wisconsin who is representing the Ohio Valley region. The World Series Championship will take place on Aug. 15 at 6 p.m.
