BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- Despite pouring rain and poor field conditions, #1 East Mississippi outlasted Northeast Mississippi to end the regular season with an unbeaten record.
The Lions topped the Tigers 26-7 to cap off a perfect 9-0 regular season, with a 7-0 mark in MACJC North play. The weather had a lasting impact on both teams with 10 combined fumbles in the game, five of those resulting in turnovers.
EMCC's defense put together another stellar performance up front the in trenches, holding Northeast negative rushing yardage, and tallying 3 sacks on the evening. Kane Taylor also had a 50-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown to put the game out of reach late in the 4th quarter.
Offensively, the Lions put together a balance attack behind Messiah deWeaver's 183 passing yards, his fourth straight game with a passing touchdown. Keon Moore paced the EMCC rushing attack with 126 yards on 13 carries. It was the 2nd career 100-yard game for the freshman from Harrison Central.
East Mississippi will host first round MACJC playoff action next Saturday.
