OXFORD, Miss. (WTOK) - The Ole Miss Rebels (41-18-0) would have to win two consecutive games against the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (52-6-0) to claim the Oxford Regional Championship. After falling to Louisiana in the winner’s bracket Saturday, the Rebels blanked Southeast Missouri State, 10-0, Saturday night – earning a rematch with Louisiana.
The Rebels’ five runs in the third inning was enough to secure a game one win in Sunday’s Oxford Regional Championship against the Cajuns. The win forced an elimination game for both squads with the winner continuing on to play the Tucson Regional Champion in the Super Regionals.
The Rebels were up 5-0 before Louisiana’s Raina O’Neal’s three-run homer evened the score. Julie Rawls crossed the plate in the sixth inning on a wild Rebels’ pitch for the go-ahead run. The Rebels were able to tie up the game in the bottom of the seventh when Autumn Gillespie bunted Katelin Cooper home. Then Kaylee Horton batted in Kylan Becker on an infield grounder for the game’s final run.
