MERIDIAN, Miss. -- The Meridian Community College basketball teams dropped both games Monday night inside Graham Gymnasium.
The Lady Eagles fell in a low scoring affair. The Lady Eagles never could get anything going on the offensive end but played a great game defensively. The Lady Eagles fell by the score of 47-40.
Neither team was able to muster much offense in the first quarter. At the end of the 1st quarter the Lady Eagles held a 7-6 lead. Both teams continued to struggle offensively during the 2nd quarter. Jordan Bell hit an early three pointer to give the Lady Eagles some offensive momentum. The teams headed into the halftime break tied 17-17.
Both teams came out with more offensive rhythm to start the 3rd quarter. The Lady Wildcats made a run late in the 3rd quarter to start to build a lead. At the end of the 3rd quarter the Lady Eagles trailed 33-28
The Lady Eagles shooting woes continued throughout the 4th quarter. The Lady Eagles were able to cut into the lead multiple times but were never able to pull ahead. The visitors were able to hit able to hit a couple of late free throws to pull away and get the 47-40 win.
With the loss the Lady Eagles fall to 9-7 on the season.
They will be back in action Thursday, January 31 at Jones College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
The Meridian Community College Eagles fell to the undefeated Pearl River Community College Wildcats Monday night. The Eagles stuck with the Wildcats for much of the first half but couldn’t keep pace. The Eagles mounted a furious comeback in the 2nd half but ended up falling by the score of 62-61.
The visiting Wildcats jumped out to a 9-3 lead but the Eagles were able to make a run to tie it at 9-9 with 15:00 left in the 1st half. The game would remain close throughout much of the first half. The Wildcats began to pull away and built a 37-26 lead heading into the break.
The Eagles mounted a furious comeback in the 2nd half and took the lead 54-53 with 3:00 left. The Eagles would see the lead grow to 61-56 with under 1:00 to go. The Wildcats scored a couple of quick baskets and sank two clutch free throws to gain back the 1 point advantage. The Eagles were unable to get off a final shot before the buzzer sounded.
Kylan Hamilton was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 17 points. Alex Oguinn added 10 points on the night.
With the loss the Eagles fall to 7-8 on the season. The Eagles will return to action Thursday, January 31 at Jones College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
