WAYNESBORO, Miss. Down in Waynesboro, Wayne County opened up their season at home playing host to the Quitman Panthers.
Quitman jumped on the board first, taking a 7-0 lead with a little over two minutes left in the first quarter. The Panthers capitalized on a snap that went way over Wayne County's punter, landing the team in great scoring position.
The War Eagles would respond by tying the game 7-7 with 10 minutes left in the second quarter. Quarterback Zhakerreun "Phat" Wesley faked the hand off, finding a wide open Octavious Bonner with no one to beat.
The back and forth battle continues as Quitman marched right back down the field. Quarterback Kesean Johnson took the ball in himself, breaking through Wayne County's defense to give the Panthers a 14-7 lead. That score would stay the same heading into the half.
In the first half, Quitman racked up 12 penalities while the War Eagles compiled six.
Wayne County would strike back early in the third quarter tying the game up 14-14. The score would stay that way heading into the fourth quarter.
The War Eagles would break away in the final 12 minutes of the game, beating the Panthers at home 28-14.
