Meridian Resident Featured on Good Morning America

A request from ABC led to one of Meridian's own being featured Wednesday morning on Good Morning America.

Mississippi's poet laureate, Winifred Hamrick Farrar of Meridian, wrote the poem "Treasures", for the occasion of Robin Roberts' one year anniversary on GMA.

This is a segment of Farrar's poem about her home state.

"These Mississippi beauties I extol. Huckleberry bushes with pink rosettes. Water lilies. An open cotton boll. Cows in lush pastures and puppies as pets. Magnolia blooms and stars in velvet night. Soft, slow voices. Honest faces. My home, Mississippi, beneath the sky's bright dome."

Farrar has been Mississippi's poet laureate since 1978.
