Business Owner Victim of Robbery and Shooting

Meridian Police say two men approached a man in Acme Plaza on Tuesday evening and without even saying a word to him, beat him up, robbed him, and then shot him.

Investigators are quick to point out that this is not the typical pattern of an armed robbery.

"They never said, give me your money, give me what you got," Captain Dean Harper recounts. "They immediately attacked him and that's a different type of robbery than we've seen in the past."

Newscenter 11 spoke with a shopping center employee off-camera, who says the victim in this robbery and shooting is the owner of the Young Fashion Beauty Supplies in Acme Plaza. Police say they cannot confirm or deny this.

"Because we don't want to bring attention to the individual business there," Harper explains.

Captain Harper says at last check, the victim is in stable condition at a local hospital. However, Harper tells Newscenter 11 that the bullet did cause some damage upon entering the lower back. Investigators say they don't believe this was a random crime.

"We believe he was specifically targeted because of the nature of the crime and also the condition surrounding him," Harper says.

Authorities say it is important for business owners to vary their habits when closing up every night. Of course, Captain Harper says officers will escort business owners to their cars. This as the investigation continues.

"We are going over the evidence that we did collect there at the scene," Harper says. "And also some additional evidence that has come to light and hopefully, we will be able to make some arrest as quickly as we did for the armed robberies from last week."
