BUTLER, Ala. (WTOK) One west Alabama town kicked off a summer full of activities for children in the area.

The town of Butler began this year's summer program for children with the "Chalk the Walk 2016." The kids used chalk to draw pictures on the sidewalks of Zach Rogers Park in Butler. The town has planned activities every day this summer from outdoor activities and educational opportunities to arts and crafts and movies. The city aims to get children of all ages involved.

"We get a lot of complaints from parents and their kids that they are bored and there's nothing to do. We plan these small activities and parents or babysitters can bring the kids during the day so at night they can spend time with their families," said Erika Putman, the community liaison for the town of Butler.

You can pick up a calendar of activities at Butler town hall or you can call (205) 604-8243 for more information.

The program is also looking for adult volunteers. You can go by town hall if you are interested in volunteering.
